An unusual guidebook of California centered around brief interviews and short descriptions of sites such as the towns of Oakland, Trona, The China Lake Naval Weapons Center and the "Exotic World Museum of Burlesque", illustrated with many color photographs. Contains the essay "The Fifty-Eight States of California" by CLUI director Matthew Coolidge. Also included is a CD of banjo music by William Whitmore recorded on the author's plot of land near Trona.
